Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, October 12, 2008.

Hurricane Norbert will strike the northwestern coast of Mexico overnight Saturday and into Sunday near Navojoa. The storm will either be a weak hurricane or a strong tropical storm when it hits the coast, but will weaken as it moves inland. Heavy rainfall is expected with Norbert, and flash flooding will be a threat. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Odile, now forecasted to possibly become a hurricane on Sunday, will move very close to the western coast of the country near Manzanillo in the morning, with the slight possibility of a landfall in the region. Precipitation associated with the storm is possible, with the amount of rain over the region depending on how close to the coast Odile moves.

Scattered showers and storms are expected to develop across Mexico on Sunday due to relatively low pressure across the country. Most of the precipitation will be concentrated toward southern Mexico as a tropical wave will move into the country from Guatemala later in the day. The wave will kick up showers and thunderstorms across Central America for most of Sunday before moving into Mexico. Over the Caribbean, a tropical wave will bring showers to the Lesser Antilles and Hispaniola during the day, while the rest of the islands will generally see pleasant conditions, with an afternoon shower possible.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will flare up across the northern half of South America on Sunday, with most of the precipitation occurring over the northwestern corner of the continent. The eastern coastline of Brazil can expect clouds and possibly a few showers due to onshore flow from a high pressure system located off of the eastern coast of the continent, while a weak trough will bring precipitation to Uruguay and northern Argentina. Meanwhile, the southern tip of the continent could see a few clouds and possibly a shower, although a weak ridge should keep the region somewhat clear on Sunday.
