A cold front will trek across the Mississippi Valley during the first half of the day on Wednesday before making its way across the Ohio Valley, the Northeast, and the Southeast in the afternoon and evening. The Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley will generally see showers with some scattered thunderstorms possible, while farther south, the Tennessee Valley down to the Southeast can expect thunderstorms to roll through as the front passes. While none of the storms are expected to turn severe, flooding will still be a threat to some areas.

High pressure will dominate the Northeast, keeping skies clear on Tuesday night and Wednesday, which will allow temperatures to drop to the 30s and 40s and frost to form overnight into Wednesday. The first half of the day will remain mostly clear before the clouds and rain due to the front begin to creep into the Mid-Atlantic during the afternoon and the evening hours. New England can expect to remain mostly dry on Wednesday as the precipitation from the front is not expected to reach that region until later in the week.

The Central Plains can expect mostly clear on Wednesday conditions as high pressure begins to build behind the front, although a few clouds are possible across the Northern Plains due to a weak trough.

A separate front will pass through the Northwest, bringing clouds and precipitation to the region on Wednesday morning, primarily in Montana, Wyoming, and northern Washington. However, high pressure will build in behind the front, allowing for at least some partial clearing in the afternoon.

The Southwest will continue to see warm and dry conditions as a ridge remains in place over the region on Wednesday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 14 degrees at Shirley Basin, Wyo. to a high of 105 degrees at Anaheim, Calif.
