Weather Summary

Shaun Tanner
Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday, July 26, 2008. A long, arching front extended along the eastern seaboard and then inland across the Appalachians and into the Central Plains. This feature allowed considerable moisture to pool along its boundary and instigated areas of heavy rain and strong thunderstorms in the Middle Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure moved across the Great Lakes towards the Northeast. There was not a lot of moisture involved in this system, but some precipitation moved into New England in the afternoon.

The remnants of Dolly pushed considerable moisture into the Southwest, where additional showers and thunderstorms were noticed. This precipitation produced flooding concerns in the region. Additional showers also developed in the Great Basin.

Heat Advisories were in effect for much of the Southern Plains as the region endured hot weather once again.

The Southern Plains rose into the 90s and 100s, while the Northeast saw temperatures in the 80s. The Southwest rose into the 90s and 100s, while the Great Basin saw temperatures in the 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of 37 degrees at Truckee, Calif to a midday high of 102 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.

Conditions will gradually become more favorable for development over the few days, but none of the computer models are dev...
